1 more for this week - I love Bb week

In science we blew bubbles (mostly we had fun, but we also talked about the shape of bubbles and experimented with blowing hard and soft, and tried to blow bubbles with just water - which didn't work because you need soap to make bubbles).
Just for fun, we played balloon tag at the end of the day (with first grade). Get set,
GO!
Just one balloon left to pop.

13 children + 13 bears = a really fun day

Today's science lesson was about how God made animals do amazing things to help them survive. Here we are all flying from the cold North end of our room to the warmer South end.
We were birds only briefly. Most of today was about bears. We got to practice following directions and ordinal numbers (first, second, third, fourth, fifth) to make these bear paw print snacks. The fifth step was the favorite: eat it!
After reading a non-fiction bear book we wrote about what we learned. These ones say "Bears hibernate", "I learned about hibernation" and "lady bears have two babies at a time".
During quiet reading the room was transformed. A big cave/den was built in the middle of the room. We crawled around eating food before we went in to hibernate. There are 26 bears in this cave.We played a game in which the bears had to wake up when they heard two rhyming words.
All the happy children and bears right before we went on our bear parade.

Bb

Bb is such a great letter because there are so many wonderful Bb things: butterflies, birds, bears, bubbles, balloons, bats, beads...
So far we have already pretended to be butterflies, built with big blocks and bricks, and listened to The Three Bears. Tomorrow is bear day, so check back for more pictures soon.
This group used blocks differently than I've seen before. They built cameras so I took a picture of them taking a picture of me.

Painting (2)

Yesterday we made friendship paintings; each child got one color of fingerpaint (perhaps it should be called whole-hand paint) and they got to mix it with one friend. It was lots of fun and we made lots of beautiful new colors.

Painting the Kinder Garden

Last week was our first experience with watercolor paints. They did a nice job painting flowers. One flower from each student is now part of a class painting called The Kinder Garden, which will be in the silent auction at Fall Festival.
(Sorry. I forgot to rotate it before uploading.)

Leaf Day

Here are a few pictures of leaf day. First we took some time to observe our leaves closely. We looked for the veins that we had read about earlier.

Of course this class of scientists recorded their observations.
We sang a song as someone climbed up the 'tree trunk' and let their leaves fall down.
It was hard to hit the target but a few children got all three to touch it!

After our leaf hunt we sorted and graphed.
Then we acted out a poem that involved throwing the leaves into the air so they could fall down.
Happy Fall!

Fabulous Fire Station Field Trip (aka A Whole Lot of Pictures)

Everyone was allowed to slide down the pole. Some crowded close to watch in eager anticipation of their turn. Others watched from a much safer distance.

Here are the brave few:

No one was afraid to spray the hose though!

Class picture:

We had indoor recess after lunch. Guess what most children were playing? I'll give you some hints: it involved hats, sirens, writing down directions, moving chairs, racing trucks, making hoses...

(If you want a copy of your child's pictures, let me know and I will email them to you)
