Fall Festival is tomorrow!

Our class and YOU received this thank you for all your contributions for Fall Festival.

We did an Animal Action song for a little movement between writing activities today.

Today

Not pictured: we had a bonus field trip today!  We just put out a bunch of transportation books and then we had a cool tractor thing (Feel free to comment and tell me what it was called) show up at school, so this afternoon we took a few minutes to go look at it in action. We decided it was a slow form of transportation, but it was cool to watch it work.
Alien addition: add some googly eyes :)
New dress-up clothes!  In social studies we talked about different neighborhood helpers and jobs by looking at the many hats that people wear.
During our reading time this week we've been working on alphabetical order.  First we worked with our names, then we did some fall words all together.  Later everyone got their own set of words to put in order.  It was a bit tricky since there were 2 A words and 2  P words, but we did pretty well!

Aliens, turkeys, food

We started making aliens in art: drop the paint on and blow it around.
Some children really liked one of our new sight word centers, so they also played it during free choice centers - turkey trot: roll die, read word, move turkey.
Playing grocery store with real food!

Zoo Field Trip (Many Pictures)

Giraffes!
They had as much fun running/climbing/playing as they did looking at animals.
Looking at a rhino camouflaged in the back
 Cute otters.
 I matched the komodo dragon!

See?  It has a splint on its right arm, too!  Although technically the komodo dragon merely suffers from joint pain, not a broken arm.
 Hanging around...

Cute little squirrel monkeys.  Ask your child what they ate.
 Class picture!
 Spider web time.

 Bandaid time...

 Relaxing by the life-size elephants

Petting zoo.  I was actually impressed by how long they were content to be in here brushing the goats.

 brushing its beard

By the end of the day everyone was hot (it was 90*) and tired.  Everyone should sleep well tonight.  :)

Thanks to the moms and dad who came, chauffeured children, got us into the zoo, wrangled children,  carried the cooler, etc!

Buddies!

Our buddies came today and helped us with some research.  Everyone got to pick an animal they wanted to learn more about.  Our buddies did a great job of helping us read and find information.  :)

So you can smile like I did...

Today we watched part of a video clip about pumpkins and it was quite fun.  The kids enjoyed the enormous pumpkins and I smiled a little at the foreign political satire :)

It started with 2 girls dressing up to play church.  They brought their babies, but when they started erecting a stage, more children came to see what was going on, abandoning their previous activities.

There was talk of a baptism, but they started by getting some Bible books and then standing to sing "This Little Light of Mine".

Math Art

It looks like a collection of junk, but really it's math art!  We picked different shapes (math) to make a collage (art) and let the sun fade the paper around it (science too!)

Each child had a turn to share their cool project with the class.
More awesome math: symmetry paintings!  Just paint, fold, squish, and re-open.
