Don't just read it, sing it

You all know the tune...
One student came back from recess singing:

"Mr. Schout,
sitting in a tree,
K-I-S-N-A-U-G!"

They don't quite have the spelling down yet :)

Learning

I love it when parents share those funny school-related stories with me.  Recently, one mom told me about a conversation between her child and and another Kindergartener:

"I just hatched a great idea!"

"Are you oviparous?"
I love when they retain information and vocabulary, and can use it later.  :)

Sunny Solution

Today at lunch, a child took off his hat and waved it around. I assumed he was trying to shade his eyes. I was mistaken. His purpose was much broader than that, as he soon explained:

"I fanned the sun, so it's not too hot out here."

:)

"Miss Vis, is E a vowel?"
"Yes."
"Miss Vis, do you know the vowel song?"
"I know a few vowel songs. Which one do you know?"
"The first one God made."

Bible Review

Bible review question last week:
Why was Moses put in a basket?

“Because they didn’t have any cars or strollers.”

Quote, buddies, scientific grossness

Remember that banana peel that we were observing? This is what it looks like now. We observed it carefully with our eyes and hands, and then described it ("black" "dirty" "yucky" "slimy" "soft"...). We drew in our science notebooks how it had changed. Gross as it looks, the children enjoyed it.
And on to more pleasant things: we had fun with our 4th grade buddies Friday afternoon. We played a sponge water game, the over/under relay, and ended our time with popsicles.

And we'll end with a quote:
"Lowercase t is basically a lucky number."
"Why?"
"Because it looks like a cross."
